stitch conversations
In September 2016 Walcot Chapel, Bath (12-18 September 2016), became a studio and the film considers how we became a performative group within the space.
This is a document of an ongoing project with the artists meeting regularly to continue thinking about why we stitch. The quiet contemplative space of Walcot Chapel in warm September weather provided a calm space to work together. As a result, the work rather than the conversations took over the focus for the project.
Each artist responding in different ways to use the space, creating new work, developing existing work in a mutually supporting environment and sharing our thoughts and practice. This resulted in developing our understanding of each person’s practice over an extended time period.
The photographer Alistair Campbell was invited to film and asked to take his reference point from Vilhelm Hammershoi’s paintings. After initial discussions as a group and time to become accustomed to the camera, the absorption in each individuals activities became the focus.
